Missionaries in Jail

September 23rd, 2008 by Steve

Ever wonder what you’d do if you were completely committed to God, doing His work as a missionary overseas … and found yourself in prison because of something you believe He told you to do? How would you feel? How would you act?

How about if you’d been stripped and beaten first, and then put into chains?

How about singing?

What kind of mindset must Paul and Silas have had (Acts 16:25), that after being dragged through the streets, falsely accused and then arrested, they wind up sitting in the inner cell of a stinking prison, backs bleeding, feet in the stocks … happily singing away without a care in the world?

Evidently, they figured that they were exactly where their Master wanted them (Rom 1:1 (NLT); 1 Cor 7:22-23; Gal 1:10; Titus 1:1), and so it was OK by them.

Wish I had that kind of commitment. Don’t much want the flogging, though.
