Bible in a Day – Thomaston

September 8th, 2008 by Steve

The Bible in a Day has now been booked into Thomaston Congregational Church for October 4, and I’m printing their books at the same time as the ones for Center Church, which makes it handy. Thomaston, at least at this point, is a private session – although if I hear otherwise I’ll post it here and Twitter it; add a comment if you’d like to get on the announcements list for future sessions, BTW.

Abraham's Family Tree

The key in BiaD is twofold: (1) to provide a very high-level overview that moves smoothly from Genesis to Malachi, while at the same time (2) to maintain sufficient connection to the text to provide an anchor for what could otherwise become mere philosophical theology ramblings (if not outright pedantry – which, come to think of it, using that word could be). It need lots of pictures to hold interest; enough of the ‘obvious’ to maintain agreement; enough insight to provide the excitement of discovery; enough structure to provide a sense of pacing & direction and enough drama and humor to keep people awake across an entire day.

I’m slowly moving toward merging the New Testament in, but it’s a huge task. Compressing a library of 39 books into 6 hours of me yakking – let alone all 66 books – is definitely a non-trivial task.

Worth it, though.
